Hello everybody! My name is Cory Robinson. I'm finishing up my last year at STLCC, and I'm so excited to be taking this class with all of you! My favorite author would have to be, well, a lot of people! The book I've been reading avidly as of late is Seinlanguage by Jerry Seinfeld. Talk about stitches in your side! Aside from that, I'm a big fan of the classics. As well as some modern authors, such as Haruki Murakami. I have a Thomas Pynchon tattoo, so safe to say I love him as well. I'm excited to finally be taking a literature course again! I'm hoping to discover some new authors, as well as some new literature to add to my bookshelf! An interesting fact about myself: I run a record label called Carucage Records, and I'm a College Marketing Representative for Sony Music Entertainment. Got my foot in the music business door, so I'm pursuing that as a career (although I'd rather have been an author), it's just what makes the most sense.

Wow a College Marketing Representative, that sounds fascinating. But if writing is your passion you could always do that in your free time. Tons of authors originally started with other careers and you might find that writing is cathartic and a great escape. Even if you never publish it can be a great hobby. This is also my last semester at STLCC, are you transferring to another college? If so where are you planning on going? I am looking forward to reading your responses. It sounds like you are a well read individual. I'm also a huge fan of the classics, I find when in doubt on what to read next I just walk through the classic section and grab something by someone like Vonnegut, Capote, or Faulkner. But as an English major I also feel that's my responsibility to know all those classic authors and their works.
ReplyDeleteWe will read some Pynchon in this class when we do the unit on postmodernism, and Murakami is amazing. The New York Times actually just had a comic not that long ago called "Haruki Murakami Bingo." ReplyDeleteThis comic had me laughing like a child, unable to stop giggling! Thanks for sharing! Also, very excited to read Pynchon in this class. I've been meaning to read Gravity's Rainbow, as well as the rest of his body of work, and just haven't mustered up the courage. His work is intimidating; I don't think I can even semi-grasp everything that man is talking about (but hey, the pop-culture was a bit different, so it's forgivable).
DeleteI'm so interested in hearing more about your record label and working for Sony. My family has always been really involved in music so that's totally my thing. My brothers are actually in a local band that's got some kind-of-sort-of cool stuff going on marketing wise, but I'm always interested in hearing about what other people have going on in terms of working with music. A St. Louis local band Foxing (if you're not familiar with them, you should be) just recently started getting a lot of attention and just got signed to Triple Crown, and I only first heard about them because their bassist was actually in an online class here at Wildwood last fall, and I checked them out because he referenced that he was in a band in his introduction discussion board post.
